I doubt anybody knows the real answer but the level of curiosity at this age was 'hairankun".

There are no 2 thoughts. For believers of God/religion/spiritualists/kerma/reincarnacation - its a soul which get designate first to born.
For athesit - everything is just physiological and material.
No, there is catch. From that point of view actually all the souls have been born already (Islamic understanding-( ref. Qur'anic statement of الست بربّکم)
There is a hadeeth of the prophet SAWS that I have done a lot of 'research' on, reported in both Bokhari and Muslim that says that the soul is blown by the appointed angle in to the formed fetus at either 40 days or 40 x40x40=120 days gestational age (I believe the later to be correct while most ulama consider 120 days to be correct)
It is because of that, after 120 days the fetus becomes a 'person' according to sharia
Yes some young people do surprise me too.
That what I thought, classic teaching is that - once conception occurs - at 120 days soul is put into the fetus...
But I am so 'Jahil' in this matter - I decided to stay quiet.
Unless the questioner is a true believer and open-hearted to listening may be it is better to to keep quiet on the subject, Mystic.
