One thing which makes difference

I have raised two teenagers. People frequently ask me what makes a difference in their upbringing. Good schooling, community, friends, family, and extracurricular classes may play a role. Still, the most significant thing which makes the difference in terms of values and ethics is the dinner table discussion every day. It reminds me of a scene from the movie: The life of Pi.

Long time ago I was attending an important postgrad meeting, a Psychiatrist was going to talk about "going to Drugs" when the drugs first became widespread
So we all residents were all ears when he started
"I know who is the person you should listen to and follow. He is at the head of the the dining table evry evening"
Rest of the lecture was more of a 'daras' than an academic discourse
Yes very true, and I was always criticising my wife that she id not give freedom for children to speak their hearts . My own feeling in those times was there is bilateral learning and so my approach to children was different My wife always thought what she knows is all good and children know nothing and like oldfashiones culture They should notm speak when elders are taking

Uncle: Thank you for sharing your personal life so candidly. In the end, both of your children turned out well. They both blogged for a while, but they stopped afterwards.

I remained caught between two cultures - where I was often afraid and allowed too much freedom of expression to my kids.
