Hamari bari Apa (my first cousin) apne abbu ki ikloti thiN is liye sir charhi thiN. Hamari Dadi unhe aksar nasihat kiya kartin ke: "Lurki ka sab se bara gun uski khamoshi hota hai" (Girl's biggest virtue is her silence).
Main apne aap ko bara 'liberal' samjhta tha aur buzurgoN ki aesi baton ko daqyanusi samjhta tha magar ab aadhi zindagi guzarne ke baad lagta hai ke dadi sahi kehti thiN.

Ummm... explain!
Its very easy for a women to become a nagger if she is spoiled in childhood and develop a characteristic of arrogance!
Men can get away with it easily but unfortunately and unfairly women bear consequences more often.
But the fact remains that it is easy for a man to become a nagger if he is spolied and... :)
....and he can get away with it!!
Tell me about it ;o)
lol
interestingly research proves different women have more flexibility to change....may be you are refering to double standards of society....things coming from guys are accepted diferently instead of a woman
For sure it speaks of double standard of most cultures but on other hand - like it or hate it - fair or not fair - women are 'suppose to' play more submissive, shy and timid role.
Let me add
Being a little bit 'timid' or shy or submissive etc. saves marriages, makes them more pleasant and do not think that the overbearing man does not appreciate it. That is why dadis gave such advice.
Some day I wish collect my thoughts about these "roles' of man and wife in the light of "feminism" of today
Uncle, you put it all very well together..
my husband would love this while i dont;)
I always thought 'beyond' is a 'male'...oops
