Songs of Blue Whales in Indian Ocean

"Not much is known about blue whale songs, although most researchers think that they help males woo their mates, as is the case with closely-related species. That can make any modifications to a cetacean melody fairly high stakes, Dr. de Vos said: “If two populations can’t talk to each other, over time, they’re going to grow apart.”

Salmon Run

Salmon Run is one of the most intriguing phenomena of nature. I was first told about this by one of my patients, a professional fisherman in the pacific ocean. I didn't believe him. But when Google came, I learned he was right. Salmon can go as far as Japan but will return to spawn at her birthplace. She will spawn, become colorless, and act like a dead, so her eggs stay protected (big fishes don't come near/eat dead fish).

Once her children leave for the river, she will die at her birthplace.

The Raccoons of Toronto

Toronto is called the "Raccoon Capital of the World".

They were making life miserable for the city by messing up trash cans everywhere looking for their food. Eventually, the city came up with very powerful raccoon proof trash cans. For a while, raccoons start disappearing from the scarcity of food supply. But they re-appeared with the skill to break the so-called foolproof new trash cans!

Zindagi apna rasta khud dhund leti hai!

Nature's game

(I don't agree with below. But this blog is all about how people perceive and experience life. Following thoughts were expressed to me from an extremely intellectual man. Again, I differ but these are strong sentiments)

Nature has no interest in individual humans, except to continue process of procreation. One generation gives birth to coming generation, gets old and die. And, so process of evolution continues. Nature banks only on two things to sustain this. Firstly, gender attraction and secondly, love of parents for children to nurture them. All wars, religions and fight to protect own's genes stem from this. In short, we all are fucking pawns of nature's game.

Chand Taare

Jub hum chote se the to makan ki chat pe raat ko khule aasman ke neeche dadi ki god main sir rukh ker jinoN parioN ki kahaniaN suna kerte. Woh kahaniaN tub sach lagti thiN. Aik hi kahani dadi se kai kai baar sunte magar hur baar nai lagti -
Woh choti si raatain woh lambi kahani

Kahani sunte sunte main chand ko dekha kerta. Duniya main agar koi cheez sab se ziyada 'mystifying' hai to woh poora chand hai. Sahil pe poore chand ki chandni ya Chicago ki barfani raatoN ke baad 'Lake Michigan' pe damakte poore chand se ziyada duniya main khubsurat cheez koi nahi!

Aik din Dadi ne bataya: "Jub is duniya main koi shaks marta hai to uske naam ka aik taara aasman pe bun jaata hai" Aur barsoN maiN Dadi ki is baat ko sach samjhta raha.

(35 years fast forward)

Me and my son looking full moon and trying to find constellations.
My son: "Do you know how stars get formed"
Me: "When someone dies, a star of his name get formed in the sky"
My son: "You don't know daddy. Its because of the clouds getting together by energy, and its true".

I smiled.

Ya to shayed science ne bohat ziyada taraqqi ker li hai ya shayed hum hi bohat bhole the!

Snow flowers

Snow despite its all mess, always touches human heart. I received this beautiful email from one friend, on this weekend's snow !

I learnt a new lesson today.
Imagination is dependent on observation...
like output is on invesment.

My economics. I love it, cauz it makes me think of dependencies and vulnerabilities. Economic variables are like humans, vulnerable.

I know, I digress.

Bus ride from school... was tiring, to begin with. I had an exam, was sleep deprived, it was cold and it was snowing... again!

The bus took a turn at 'charlotte and Montreal' and all looked the same. Same buildings, same snow, more mess... as with each passing day, snow it seems is mourning the loss of its virginity...As usual, I was looking outside. Not sure what do I look for everyday... Bus route - 5, more or less same timings. I just always look out. Everyday, I see this man playing with his dog. Lucky dog eh'.

Today my attention was caught be a medium sized tree. Very ordinary. Missing its foliage and one of a kind... and one of a kind, it indeed was. It showed me how observations and imaginations go hand in hand.

The tree had branches, and it was carrying snow. Good thing was; it dint bow down to snow's weight. It stood tall and proud. The most beautiful thing was it had blooming snow flowers.

Yes snow flowers...

I had heard of a snowman, snow angels, snow balls...but I didn't know that snow flowers existed.

I guess snow flowers are like weeds... they bloom and then they vanish...But they do leave memories behind. Like this tree which has now become a part of my imagination... I can think about it, look at it and feel its softness whenever I want...

I am happy, I was looking out!
