7 khun Maaf

Omkara creator Vishal Bhardawaj's new bollywood movie '7 Khun Maaf' is sure to get flop at box office but I think its a very creative art movie based on Ruskin Bond's short story Susanna's Seven Husbands. Its a heavy complicated flick. No wonder by the time movie ended, I was the only person left there. Apparently it seems like a stupid plot, even to think that a women marries 7 times and kill 6 of her husbands. (I will not write whom she married 7th time to save surprise for you - and who is the 7th person who get killed)  but actually husbands represent different dark sides of men!

Theme of the movie revolves around the psychology of a woman who confusedly look for love in men via masculinity (army major/insecure-abusive), fame (singer/druggy), slick talking (poet/sexually sick), grace (political figure/cheater), power (government official/blackmailer) or healing touch (spiritualist/greedy). But what woman actually craves across religions, cultures and countries is a simple trust! - as portrayed in movie via her pet snakes!

Said that, now in the background you have to remember 2 things. First, this woman lost her ideal man - her father - very early in life. And it portrays the effect of father figure on woman's psych and on her pursuit of a good man. Second, this is a woman who reacts with extreme if her trust is broken as portrayed by a small story about her. As a child, she had the option of two similar roads that go to her school. She always takes the same street. But once a rabid dog tried to stop her, rather than changing her road, she kills the dog!

As far as movie is concerned - it has been done well in terms of dialogue, photography, pace, climax, music and lyrics (Gulzar). Priyanka Chopra fits so well and first time I felt Irfan Khan is a better actor than Nasiruddin Shah. Irfan Khan played a sadist poet who drives sexual pleasure by inflicting sodomy and pain and he did his part with so much control and precision that - aik lamhe ke liye aap ke bhi rongtte khare ho jaayain!

If you are a serious movie watcher don't miss it.
