On - History of Sikh Turban

"Aurangzeb attempted to prevent non-Muslims from wearing turbans, decreeing that only the Islamic ruling class had the authority to wear them. But this, along with forced conversions and other fundamentalist policies, sat uncomfortably with the growing Sikh population. When their leader Guru Tegh Bahadur was executed by Aurangzeb in Delhi, his son Gobind founded a warrior group known as the Khalsa, before insisting that all Sikhs wear turbans to cover their uncut hair. The turban had become an act of defiance against the emperor. It was the Sikhs' sign of freedom, a symbol of equality and a way to end caste distinctions."

Aurangzeb really had ongoing feud with Sickhs and killing Tej Bahadur the nineth Guru was an Un-Islamic thing (more like Taliban) He was an extremist exactly opposite to Akbar who went too far the other way. They say it was because of these policies of forced conversions etc that led to the end of Mughal empire. The tenth Guru was the son of Tej and he introduced the last name Singh when he founded the Khalsa group that now dominates Sikh teachings
Sad, very sad

I have learned something more recently about Aurangzeb He may have killed this 9th Guru because of suspicion of treason rather than the Taliban type feeling I suggested before A recent article suggests he actually did have real islamic rule and Hindu Sickhs ha freedom of religion and he saved more temples and repaired than otherwise the research actualy brings out It was the English who exaggerated his Muslim activity to make Hindu Sickh and Muslims 'divide'to rule them
This research was by NonMuslim and seems to be more authentic so I thought I will lessen the harshness of my previous comments
