I have written on this blog various times before about stigma of using antipsychotics, antidepressants and medicines related to mental health in our society. Mani ki Kahani (here) still haunts me some nights and give me goose bumps reading that post. This picture beautifully capture the dragon of depression.

I do have some Psychiatry experience and of course a long life of all kinds of friends including some who committed suicide (just read Mani) This picture however is not all but just showing a phase in the life of such people. I find most disturbing situation of a Hafiz of Qur,a intelligent person with Manic-depressive sickness who would stick to bed during sever depression no namaz no food, no expression etc. for days (not the only "one" I know) before coming out. But in manic phase they are happy hardworking and can accomplish much more that "humanly" possible. However some are such who cannot be "saved" from suicide and I call them "malignant depression" I know Psychiatrists will disagree with me but I think they are not "treatable" as far as suicide goes
As people say: "Pleasure of maniac phase is Powerful that it is worth to go through the darkness of depressive phase" - though I disagree. Some people can be saved despite brutal depression by meds, constant encouragements and keeping them occupied objectively.
Uncle, did you know Mani personally? Please email me
Is it me or everyone sees this "screaming skull " in this picture ? I am hallucinating or what ? Depression is still a mystery to me - I know people get better with medications but Do we really need them I am not so sure ?
BnS : Yes this is screaming skull... That's the whole point !!!
I think, most need medicines life long to keep the edge off - but I know few lucky ones who were able to get off medicines.
